Basic Installation of Debian:
- You
will have to connect an ethernet cable to install from the internet,
because the debian installer does not come with the ipw3945 driver.
Everything else goes smooth.
- Enable the contrib and non-free repositories after installation to get your proprietary drivers installed, if you want. Then use module-assistant to build and install them.
Basic Installation of Gentoo:
- First, you will need to find a livecd that supports your ipw3945 wireless card (Ubuntu works great) if you don't want to connect a network cable to your computer.
- Second, you will want to follow the gentoo handbook at http://www.gentoo.org.
